SUMMARY:

The intensification of agricultural production, largely driven by the intensive use of chemical fertilizers, has led to significant environmental impacts, thereby fostering the search for more sustainable strategies. In this context, the use of bioinputs, such as plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) and biochar, has emerged as a promising alternative for forage grass production. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential of seed microbiolization, through bacterial inoculation and co-inoculation combined with biochar-based seed pelleting, on the germination performance, morphophysiological traits, and productivity of forage sorghum. Additionally, the study sought to explore the development of innovative bioformulations, including inoculants based on L-tryptophan and magnesium sulfate, with potential technological applications. Experiments were conducted under controlled conditions and in a greenhouse, evaluating different combinations of bacterial inoculation, biochar pelleting, and chemical fertilization. Overall, biological treatments promoted significant increases in germination, plant growth, biomass production, and morphogenetic traits, with particular emphasis on root development and early plant establishment. Co-inoculation associated with biochar pelleting showed comparable performance for some variables and superior performance for traits related to root development when compared to chemical fertilization, highlighting a synergistic effect between microorganisms and the pelleting material. These results indicate greater efficiency in plant–microbe interactions and improved utilization of soil resources. Thus, the integration of seed microbiolization, bioinputs, and bioactive formulations represents a promising strategy for the sustainable intensification of forage grass production, contributing both to scientific advancement and to the development of technologies applicable to the agricultural sector.
